Turkish Teklas hires former Geox’s workers in Vranje

The Turkish company Teklas Automotive has opened a car parts factory in Vranje, which will initially employ about 300 and later 1,500 workers.

In three car parts plants in Vladicin Han, which were opened six years ago, the company employs about 1,200 workers, while the factory in Vranje employed former employees of the plant of Italian Geox, which had left Serbia.

The ceremony on the occasion of the opening of the factory in Vranje was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who said that the salaries in Teklas were 50 percent to twice as high as they had been in Geox, which employed 1,200 people. He added that the Turkish investment in Vranje would mean about 1,000 more employees than at the time of the operation of Italian Geox.

CEO of Teklas Nebi Anil expressed gratitude for the support of the Government of Serbia, adding that the company’s turnover in Serbia should be about 100 million euros.

„When all the planned investments in Vranje are completed, our goal is to reach about 2,500 workers in Serbia and for our turnover to be about 250 million euros,“ he stressed.

Anil noted that Serbia was a country suitable for investments, because it „is the best ranked when it comes to costs“.

„Serbia is not a low-cost country, but the best-cost country that gives the best conditions when it comes to costs,“ he said, stating that the quality of the workforce and the position of Serbia, as well as the approach of the Serbian government to investors, were considered before the investment.

The new Teklas plant in Vranje was opened at the site of former Italian Geox, which closed its shoe factory last summer.

Teklas exports all production to the European and US markets, and well-known brands such as Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Renault, Toyota, Peugeot, Tesla will install Teklas products made in Serbia on their hybrid cars.

So far, it has invested in 11 production sites in Bulgaria, China, Mexico, Turkey, the USA and Serbia, employing more than 6,000 workers.
