Brussels grants Serbia higher quotas for steel export to EU

The European Commission has increased quotas for the export of certain types of steel from Serbia to the EU market, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce announced today.

Based on the new regulation, the European Commission redistributed quotas for steel import into the EU, which have so far been intended for Russia and Belarus.

„We believe that this change in EU regulations will be used by our steel industry companies, which are also major exporters,“ said Assistant Director of the Sector for Strategic Analyses, Services and Internationalization, Bojan Stanic.

He recalled that Serbia’s steel industry had been limited for several years by EU quotas for steel import, even though there was a Free Trade Agreement with the EU.

The European Commission adopted this Regulation following the decision to ban the import of steel from Russia and Belarus to the European Union market.
