Tiodorovic: Huge pressure not to close winter tourist centers

Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic has said that the Crisis Staff for the fight against coronavirus could have recommended the closure of winter tourist centers, but that there is huge pressure from the public – people who live from the work of winter centers and the population that wants to return to normal life as it was before the pandemic, because this has lasted for too long.

„The recommendation of the Crisis Staff was for the winter centers to work, but with one third of the capacity being filled. If the recommendation had been respected, and we saw that it was not and that, above all, Zlatibor and Kopaonik were overbooked, we would not have had this problem. „Skiing does not endanger people’s health, but everything that happens before and after does, and here I primarily mean gatherings in enclosed areas,“ said Tiodorovic, a member of the Crisis Staff, for today’s issue of the Danas daily, talking about potential places of infection.

According to him, „this does not only apply to winter centers, but also to restaurants in Belgrade and Serbia“. „I understand that people need to relax, but our doctors need to take a break even more,“ Tiodorovic emphasized.

When asked about the possibility of allowing the presence of 5,000 spectators at the Red Star-Milan football match, he said that something like that was not realistic in the current situation.

„Can anyone guarantee that those 5,000 spectators will sit at the prescribed distance with masks and that they will not be grouped together and cheering together,“ he asked.

„I do not think so. I would like the audience to be able to attend not only football, but also basketball matches. However, logic says that something like that is not realistic in this situation,“ Tiodorovic concluded.
