Official „flash“ estimate: Serbia’s growth in the first quarter 4.3%

Serbia’s real growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2022 was 4.3 percent compared to the same period last year, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS) said on the basis of a flash estimate.

The Serbian government planned GDP growth of 4.5% this year.

According to an estimate by international financial institutions, Serbia’s GDP growth will be lower than projected this year due to the global crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

Serbia’s economic growth will slow down this year amid multiple global crises, including the war in Ukraine, according to projections made by the World Bank (WB). More specifically, gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2022 will be 3.2%, although earlier predictions indicated that the growth rate would be 4.4%, according to the WB’s Western Balkans Regular Economic Report published today.

The report states that Serbia will maintain macroeconomic stability despite the highlighted negative risks that could be realized in 2022.

Inflation is already on the rise, and its further acceleration can be expected, just like in other Eastern European countries, due to the increase in food and energy prices on the world market.
