Market vendors to meet with Vucic on Thursday: We are not giving up on exemption!

Market vendors will discuss their request for a fiscal exemption without any concessions on Thursday at the Serbian Presidency with the representatives of the Tax Administration and the Ministry of Finance, as the founder of the association „Opstanak“ Petrik Redzep, told Beta.

He said that president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, would most likely attend that meeting.

When asked if a compromise solution was possible in the event that the state offered it, Redzep said that vendors did not give up on the request for exemption, and that a compromise was possible in the sense of offering assistance for the registration of everyone who was engaged in sales at the market and who was not registered or not properly registered.

„We ask for an exemption from fiscalization and for the regulation of our special status, so that we are not equated with the owners of commercial properties because we differ from them in terms of both working conditions and prices, since they are not fixed, and we lower them, bargaining with customers,“ Redzep said.

Agricultural producers selling their goods at market stalls are exempt from the fiscal obligation. Market vendors now pay a flat-rate sales tax and they claim that it is pointless to introduce fiscal cash registers in order to introduce them into the value added tax (VAT) registration system because they do not generate half of the anticipated annual turnover of eight million dinars provided for the VAT system.

Redzep said that many market vendors were not registered because they applied to the market administration as producers, and „it is evident that bananas do not grow in Leskovac“, but they sold them because no one checked what market agricultural producers produced. „There are not even two percent of the real agricultural producers at the markets,“ Redzep said.
