We are only in the first phase of Omicron, the second and more difficult one will come soon

Epidemiologist and member of the Crisis Staff Branislav Tiodorovic has said that the current wave of the coronavirus epidemic will have two phases.

The first, which is currently underway, affects young people, children and middle-aged people.

In the second phase, which, as Tiodorovic said, could be expected next week or a week later, older people, especially those seriously and chronically ill, would get sick more often.

The fact that the omicron strain of the virus is spreading 10 to 15 times faster than earlier strains can create a problem for the health system, which, according to Tiodorovic, is already under attack because the number of infected healthcare workers is estimated at between seven and 10 percent.

„This can create the situation in which when we need healthcare workers the most, we will face a problem,“ said Tiodorovic.

He also stated that an additional problem was that an increase in influenza infections, which have already appeared, could be expected in February, and the continuation of the school year could also contribute to the increase, because students are, as he said, the engine of influenza spread.
