Twitter marks Serbian media that „COOPERATE WITH GOVERNMENT“ (PHOTO)
The Twitter social network marked a number of media from Serbia with the label „media that cooperates with the Government of Serbia“.
This label, that is visible as of today under the name of the media outlet, on their official profiles, was given by Twitter to: RTS, B92, Prva TV, Tanjug agency, Kurir daily, Srpski Telegraf daily, Informer daily, Pink TV, Politika daily and Happy TV.
According to an explanation issued by Twitter, the labels on the profiles related to the state provide additional context about these profiles that are controlled by certain representatives of governments, as well as media institutions connected to the state, but also individuals close to this type of entity.
„Labels appear on the pages of important Twitter profiles and on tweets sent and shared by these profiles. The labels contain information about the country with which the profile is linked and information about whether they cooperate with government representatives or state-related media. In addition, these labels include small flag icons that signal the status of the profile as a government profile or a state-affiliated media outlet“ the official Twitter website announcement reads.
The company states that, if the media is marked as connected to the state, Twitter will not recommend their accounts to people or „increase“ the reach of their tweets.
