    Serbia’s public debt above legally stipulated limit

    Serbia’s public debt at the end of this year’s March was around EUR23.72 billion, which is 59 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), Ministry of Finance announced.

    Public debt at the end of February was EUR23.34 billion, which is 57.9 percent of GDP. Serbia’s public debt at the end of 2017 was EUR23.22 billion, i.e. 61.5 percent of GDP. In December 2016 public debt was around EUR24.82 billion, i.e. 71.9 percent of GDP.

    Public debt was at a record low in 2008, when it was EUR8.78 billion or 28.3 percent of GDP.

    The Budget System Law limits stake of public debt in GDP to 45 percent.
