Russia announces a „ban“ on Serbian peaches and apricots

Serbian Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic has stated that he is familiar with the fact that the Russian food safety regulator found fungus in peaches and apricots exported from Serbia to Russia after July 13th.

On the occasion of an announcement that Russia plans to impose a temporary ban on import of peaches and apricots from Serbia and Macedonia as of August 15th, because of safety issues, Nedimovic has stated for today’s edition of the „Alo“ newspaper that this is due to a force majeure, because rainy year is responsible for creation of problematic species of fungus, but the largest amount of fruit has already been exported.

„So far, we have exported about 90 percent of this type of fruit. The problem is with a fungus that is created due to high moisture content in the above mentioned fruit. These types of fruits, apart from raspberries and blackberries, are highly perishable due to rains,“ Nedimovic has said.

He has said everything will be fine and that they are in constant communication with their Russian counterparts.
