„Open Balkans“ also means OPEN labor market

President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Marko Cadez, has said that after the meeting in Tirana between officials from Belgrade, North Macedonia and Albania, where six agreements will be signed, the three countries will get a single labour market within the Open Balkans initiative.

He told RTS TV that he expected „a single labour market, borders that are open 24 hours for crossing, harmonized certificates, especially phytosanitary, in order to avoid a problem that cost the economy a lot of money.“

A strategic plan for 2022 will be agreed in Tirana during another meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, as part of the Open Balkans regional initiative.

Cadez, who is traveling to Tirana with the President of Serbia, said that the „Open Balkans“ was not a set of signatures and agreements, but the idea of peace and prosperity of the part of Europe that had always been seen as problematic, especially now in the economic crisis, energy crisis and the crisis in transport and labour force.

Two years and two months have passed since the first signatures of the three leaders and the creation of the „Mini Schengen“ initiative, which was renamed „Open Balkans“ in Skopje this July.

Cadez noted that the meeting in Tirana was a historic summit and a great day for Serbia and the region.

He pointed out that concrete results of cooperation were already visible, such as trucks arriving faster in their destination or that someone who found a job in Skopje, Vlore or Belgrade did not need three months to look for bureaucratic ways to accept the job, but everything could be finished in a day.
