NBS: Inflation will reach MAXIMUM in June and July, between 10 and 11%
Year-on-year inflation in Serbia, according to the estimate of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), should reach a maximum in June and July, in the range between 10 and 11 percent, while after that, with the arrival of the new agricultural season, it should begin to decrease, said deputy general manager of the Sector for Economic Research and Statistics of the NBS, Milan Trajkovic.
„The entry of year-on-year inflation into the boundaries of the NBS inflation target, which is three percent, with a deviation of plus or minus 1.5 percent, is expected in the second half of next year and by the end of 2023 inflation should be about four percent,“ he estimated.
„What is good is that inflation in Serbia is still lower than in the countries of Central and Southeast Europe and almost completely comparable to the developed countries. This is because of the core inflation, which the NBS still manages to keep under control, primarily by keeping the exchange rate stable, but also by not allowing the inflation expectations of the financial sector and the economy to rise significantly, which would have caused additional price increases for which there is no objective need,“ Trajkovic said in a video statement published on the NBS website.
