Member of TENT trade union: Electricity is available for export, EPS will earn 700,000 euros today

A member of the Mining and Energy Trade Union „Nezavisnost“ in the Thermal Power Plant „Nikola Tesla“ (TENT) in Obrenovac, Dragoslav Ljubicic, has said that citizens should not worry about electricity supply, after the accident at the coal mine „Kolubara“ and that there is enough of it for export.

“The daily ‘peaks’ of electricity consumption in the last two years are 5,300 megawatts. At the moment, there are six blocks at TENT A, and the production is 5,600 megawatts, with a significant reserve that enables the operation of two more blocks. EPS’s capacities can also meet the maximum electricity consumption in Serbia at any time,“ Ljubicic said.

EPS announced that a landslide stopped the operation of an excavator last night, but that there was no major damage, and coal production was not at risk.

Ljubicic said that EPS had its issues, but it was slowly and safely recovering and that he did not understand the allegations of many media outlets that reported negatively about this company, after the accident.

He strongly criticised the authorities’ decision to bring in foreign experts to manage EPS. He condemned the reaction of minister of mining and energy, Dubravka Djedovic, which he described as „panic“, adding that „there is no room for panic“.

“This accident tells us that EPS still has certain problems, but that they are not nearly the same as the ones we had two years ago. It also tells us that the Ministry of Energy is currently managed by a completely unprofessional person,“ Ljubicic said.

As he pointed out, EPS has had a constant trend of electricity export since the beginning of the year, and the export of 9,000 megawatts is agreed for today. According to him, this will have a direct consequence of 700,000 euros in EPS’s earnings.
