From Belgrade to Budapest in less than THREE HOURS, Vesic predicts

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesic, has said that in mid-2025, the high-speed train will be able to arrive from Belgrade to Budapest in two hours and 45 minutes, when the construction is completed.

Speaking on the topic of the modernization of railway traffic, Vesic said that the railway between Subotica and Novi Sad was being built extensively.

“This railroad should be completed in 2024. It was supposed to be in 2025, but the deadlines were shortened in agreement with the contractors. Hungarians will also finish their part by the end of 2024, so in mid-2025 we will have a high-speed train, you will be able to arrive in two hours and 45 minutes from Belgrade to the capital of Hungary. There will be no stopping at the border, because the Hungarian customs administration will be in Belgrade and the Serbian one in Budapest,“ Vesic told Prva TV.

The minister added that he expected an agreement to be reached during January on the construction of the Belgrade-Nis high-speed railway.

„The European Union will provide 600 million euros, so part of the funds will come from the European Investment Bank, and part will come from the budget, so in 2028-29 we will have a high-speed railway to Nis. We will also build a high-speed railway from Nis to Presevo, so that we would have a high-speed railway throughout the country,“ Vesic said, adding that some more routes would be constructed, and many would be reconstructed, especially the Belgrade-Bar and Nis-Dimitrovgrad railway.
