Fiscal Council: Growth in 2019 will be four percent, but we are lagging behind

According to the Fiscal Council’s forecast, Serbia’s economic growth next year will be four percent, said chief economist of this institution Danko Brcevic.

At the conference „Independent and Regulatory Bodies – Profession and Politics“, Brcevic said that the budget was stable and that there was no dispute about it, but that Serbia, nonetheless, was lagging behind the “comparable” countries.

He added that Serbia’s economic growth was not satisfactory, because this year, it was 3-3.5%, while in Eastern and Central Europe it was 4-4.5%.

Brcevic added that comparable countries, such as Bulgaria and Romania, were ahead of Serbia and that the gap was constantly increasing.

He also pointed out that total investments were low, and the biggest problem was related to the investments of small and medium-sized enterprises, because they did not have legal certainty.
