EBRD expects economic growth of 4.2 percent in Serbia
Serbia’s economy will grow by 4.2 percent this year with the encouragement of further strengthening of consumption and investments, while next year growth will slow down to 3.5 percent, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said today.
In a new report on the economic prospects of the region in which it is engaged, the EBRD concludes that the risks to the projected growth of the Serbian economy are balanced and mainly related to the implementation of the reforms provided for by the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the further pace of the growth in the euro zone.
After moderate growth in the previous year of almost two percent, in the first half of this year, Serbia’s economy recorded a 4.9 percent increase compared to the same period of 2017, due to strong domestic demand, primarily higher investments.
Furthermore, the recovery of private consumption continued, while import, on the other hand, continued to exceed export, the EBRD said.
