Amendments to the law facilitated demolition
Amendments to the Law on the Legalisation of Buildings in Serbia, which will be applied as of November 6, will allow the state and local authorities to demolish illegally built facilities after the adoption of, most commonly, second instance decisions, said Minister of Construction, Zorana Mihajlovic.
„It will no longer be possible to perform services in the facilities that were illegally built. Therefore, those who are in the process of legalisation must complete this procedure as soon as possible because they cannot function with such a property,“ the minister said at a press conference in the Government of Serbia.
According to her, citizens have no reason to build illegally because the state has created all the conditions for quick and easy obtaining of building permits and location requirements.
„In the period 2015-2018, 183,000 decisions were adopted on the demolition of illegal buildings based on which 78 illegally constructed buildings in nature parks were demolished. These amendments tightened the existing law even further, since the practice has shown that there are problems with the legalisation of illegal buildings in the field,“ Mihajlovic said.
She said that in the last three years, the revenues from fees for the legalisation reached RSD 3.9 billion and that she expected that in the next five years the revenues would reach RSD 40 billion. „There is the capacity to apply amendments to the Law on the Legalisation of Buildings, because at the moment we have more than 1,000 people in the local self-government units who are in charge of it,“ the minister added.
