Chinese workers TEAR DOWN monument, Vesic calls for URGENT reconstruction

Minister of Construction Goran Vesic has requested that the contractor on the section of the highway Pakovraca – Pozega, which demolished the Monument to Fallen Fighters in the village of Negrisori, urgently reconstruct the monument.

“Based on media reports and reports of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Kraljevo, I am aware that during the execution of works on the construction of the Pakovraca – Pozega highway, you damaged the Monument to Fallen Fighters of the Second World War in the village of Negrisori. I was informed that you attended the dismantling of the monument during the weekend without notifying the supervisory authority and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Kraljevo,“ Vesic said in his address to the company, adding that the monument was damaged on that occasion.

He pointed out that the company acted contrary to the contract, and that the damage to the monument caused disturbance to the citizens, the ministry announced.

„I demand that you urgently, in accordance with the conditions of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Kraljevo, reconstruct the monument, as well as that the monument be returned to the place where it was located or another appropriate place in accordance with the decision of the Institute,“ Vesic told the contractors.

The Chinese firm, whose workers demolished the World War II memorial, said it would rebuild the monument. President of the Municipality of Lucani, Milivoje Dolovic, said that that was agreed at a meeting between representatives of local self-government and the Chinese company.
