After submitting request, market vendors nevertheless HALTED PROTEST (PHOTO)

Market vendors, dissatisfied with the decision of the competent authorities that they must own fiscal registers, after spending the night in front of the Serbian Presidency building at Andricev venac in Belgrade and submitting their request, began to disperse, which officially ended yesterday’s protest.

According to earlier announcements, they planned not to disperse until they were received by President Aleksandar Vucic. They blocked the traffic in Kralja Milana Street during the early morning hours, reports the Danas daily.

Belgrade media also report that market vendors got information from the Secretariat of the Presidency of Serbia that a proposal and guidelines for changing the Law on Fiscalization had been sent to the Ministry of Finance. That is why they decided to end the protest.

They spent nights in front of presidency building

More than 100 market vendors gathered in front of the Presidency of Serbia last night to point out to the president or one of his associates the problems that the introduction of fiscal registers would bring.

The vendors set up tents at Andricev venac, they brought food, and traffic was blocked in that part of the city. Dissatisfied with the decision on the introduction of new levies, through electronic fiscalization, market vendors have been protesting for days.

They also protested at the centre of Belgrade yesterday, and their request is that they should be exempt from e-fiscalization, which should officially enter into force in May. Participants in the protest came from all over Serbia, and there were the representatives of vendors from Belgrade’s markets.

What are market vendors complaining about?

Under the new Fiscalization Act, market vendors will have to have fiscal cash registers as of May 1. Only agricultural producers who sell their products at stalls are exempt from this obligation. According to the Association of Market Vendors „Opstanak“, there are only 10% of such vendors.

The market vendors gathered at the protests, which have lasted for days, repeated their demands — they want to be exempt from the process of electronic fiscalization, which, they said, would kill both the markets and their activities.

Market vendors, more than half of them, will not be able to withstand these levies and we will have to give up work, they say.
