Zijin’s workers and citizens of Bor block entrance to the company

Some of the employees of the company Zijin Copper (Serbia Zijin Copper), with the support of a large group of other residents of Bor, have blocked the entrance to that company for half an hour, demanding from the employer a 14.3 percent increase in salaries, in line with inflation in Serbia.

At a peaceful protest in the presence of the police, workers also demanded the repeal of the Rules of Procedure that they dispute, and the implementation of the existing Collective Agreement that was signed when the Chinese partner became the majority owner of the former RTB Bor.

The protest at the entrance to the company took place after the rally in front of the General Directorate of Zijin Copper and the protest walk of a thousand people through the centre of Bor.

“With the new, unilateral and unlawfully adopted Rules of Procedure, they humiliated the workers and trade unions and showed disrespect to the Ministry of Mining and Energy, as a signatory and guarantor of the strategic partnership agreement,” said Caslav Gavric, president of the Branch Union of Mining and Energy “Nezavisnost”.

A representative of the Independent Trade Union of Metalworkers of Serbia, Zoran Markovic, threatened that they would block the company for 24 hours if the trade union’s demands were not accepted.

The leaders of the representative trade unions pointed out that they would demand that the other ministries be involved in resolving the dispute with Zijin, in addition to the Ministry of Mining and Energy.
