Vucic: Southern branch of the Corridor 10 to open in ten days

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced in Beijing that southern branch of the Corridor 10 will open in ten days.

„You will be able to go towards Skopje and Thessaloniki, without a metre of the road that is not a highway,“ Vucic said during his address to journalists in Beijing, where he leads Serbian delegation, taking part in the Second „Belt and road“ Forum.

He also announced that the eastern Corridor will be completed by the end of July or August, and in two months they will also open the Obrenovac-Cacak road. The section between Surcin and Obrenovac is expected to be completed by the end of the year as well. He pointed out that several agreements and memorandums of cooperation were signed on the first day of the visit to Beijing.

„Out of all countries of Southeast Europe, Chinese invest in Serbia the most,“ Vucic said.

Vucic said that one of his main requests to the Chinese President Xi Jinping would be that China helps Serbia to engage in advancement of artificial intelligence and robotics, where China is a global leader.

Within the next month the agreement on loan for Subotica-Novi Sad railway line will be signed as well, Vucic said, pointing out that framework agreement was also signed for Belgrade-Nis-Presevo railway line – a state border with Northern Macedonia.

We want trains to travel 160 kilometres per hour, as that way we stimulate business in Serbia and reduce congestion on highways, Vucic said, adding that Chinese are engaging in construction of the subway for the first time. „We are entering a new investment cycle, without making a problem with the public debt,“ Vucic said.
