Vucic has not (yet) ratified the Act, he is going to Jadar Valley

President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has not signed the Expropriation Act yet and he has showed several documents, including the one from 2012, which approves the excavation of a lithium sample, emphasizing that it is the only decision that affected the integrity of the land.

Vucic showed nine documents which, as he said, proved that the government allowed the company Rio Sava Exploration to conduct exploration from 2004 to 2012.

He added that the geological survey referred to the area of the municipality of Loznica.

Vucic said that the crucial document was the one from February 1, 2012, which permitted the company to perform works by the method of large diameter drilling.

Vucic showed nine documents which, as he said, proved that the government allowed the company Rio Sava Exploration to conduct exploration from 2004 to 2012.

„This is the first and only document so far that essentially allows any kind of drilling and making wells on the territory of Serbia,“ Vucic said in an extraordinary address to the citizens.

Vucic also stated that a memorandum of understanding was signed in 2017, for which the representatives of the former government said that Rio Tinto was given permission at the time, which, according to him, is not true, because everything in that memorandum was non-binding.

„Article 4, paragraph 2 of the Memorandum states that the Memorandum reflects the views and intentions of the parties to cooperate, but without creating any legal obligation or responsibility for either party. So much for fabrications and lies. The documents will be available to everyone, complete documentation will be on the website so that everyone can be convinced,“ said the president.

He also pointed out that on January 18, 2012, the Mineral Resource Management Strategy of Serbia until 2030, containing 70 pages, was adopted during the government of Mirko Cvetkovic, which mentions lithium 31 times – that it is becoming the main part of the Mineral Resource Management Strategy by 2030.

Vucic said that he had scheduled a press conference in order to present to the public „the whole truth about the Rio Tinto project“. He said he still believed lithium was an important project for Serbia.

He is going to Jadar valley

The president announced that in the upcoming days he would visit the area of 10 villages which would be affected by this project and talk to the citizens in order to hear their opinion and present to them what we could gain and what we could lose.

He said that he would take a team of people with him and that he would answer all the questions.

„We will wait at least another year and two or three months just for the environmental impact study so that we would have something to present to our citizens,“ said the president of Serbia.
