The number of undocumented workers decreased by a fifth

More than 8,000 employers’ supervisions were carried out in Serbia in first six months of this year, when compared to the same period last year and it was discovered that number of people who are working without proper documentation decreased by 20 percent, authorities claim. Majority of undocumented workers were discovered among those whose services include accommodation and food, trading, civil engineering, textile, leather and footwear production, Acting Director of Labour Inspectorate Stevan Djurovic stated in Vranje.

A total of 341 undocumented workers were discovered in seven municipalities of the Pcinja District in first six months of 2018, during 529 inspection supervisions, and based on that juridical authorities filed 91 requests for initiation of offence proceedings.

Djurovic also presented data at the workshop within the project “Say no to illegal employment” that more than 22,000 people who engaged in illegal employment were discovered in Serbia during 2017, after which 94 percent of them concluded a permanent employment contract.
