The departure of young people costs Serbia a billion euros a year

Serbia loses up to two billion euros annually for all the young people who leave our country going abroad, according to the results of the first big research on this very important topic, conducted in our region.

The research entitled „Costs of Youth Emigration from Serbia“ was conducted by the Institute for Development and Innovation with the support of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.

For a longer period of time, Serbia has been facing serious demographic problems. The research shows that as much as 78 percent of young people between the ages of 18 and 29 are thinking of leaving Serbia.

Our research papers do not contain the data about how many young people leave Serbia annually, so this research was based on the OECD data, which shows that about 49,000 people leave our country annually.
