Sombor: A „high“ investment from Bangladesh is now blocked

The textile manufacturing company Pretty Sweaters Group, opened last year in Sombor, with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Local Self-government, as the first investment of the Bangladesh-based company in Europe, is now blocked.

As N1 TV finds out, the board of directors of the Bangladesh-based company will decide next week whether to remain in Serbia. It is unclear what this means for the state subsidy of 3.4 million euros, which the Serbian government provided to them.

The account of the Pretty Sweaters company based in Bangladesh is blocked, due to the debt of over 9 million dinars, and of about a hundred employees, more than 70 have resigned because, as they say, they do not want to work without salary.

Last year, they first launched a training centre, while in November, they moved production to the plants of the former factory Zastava and announced that they would employ 1,100 citizens of Sombor in the period of two years and that they would invest more than 14 million euros in production capacities. The workers, however, say that there were never more than 200 of them in the plants, and that the problems began already in January.
