Small and medium-sized enterprises to get loans easier

The European Investment Fund, a part of the EIB Group, has signed an assistance agreement with representatives of five banks from Serbia, in the process of funding small and medium-sized enterprises in Serbia, in the amount of EUR20 million.

The agreement on implementation of guarantee scheme for financial assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises was signed by representatives of Raiffeisen, UniCredit, ProCredit, Intesa and Komercijalna banka.

The EIF will manage a project that will allow selected commercial banks to support around 1,250 small and medium-sized enterprises under more favourable conditions.

Better conditions apply to lower interest rates, less collateral, longer maturity dates, or a combination of these elements. In the next three years the European Union will, with the contribution of EUR20 million, activate up to EUR180 million in the form of favourable loans.

The launched initiative “EU for Serbia – financing of SMEs” aims new loans for Serbian companies and it is a new European financial guarantee for banks in Serbia, which will enable small and medium-sized enterprises to get loans easier.

It is an opportunity for loans, primarily for startup enterprises, small firms and entrepreneurs who otherwise would not be able to get a loan.

The Prime Minister Ana Brnabic pointed out that development of small and medium-sized enterprises is crucial for sustainable growth of the Serbian economy.
