SCC proposes quotas instead of export ban

The Serbian Chamber of Commerce will propose to the Government of Serbia that it should introduce quotas as a solution that will benefit the economy, farmers and the state instead of a complete restriction of the export of wheat, corn, flour and oil.

The proposal concerns the introduction of a system of monthly quotas and compliance with the already existing contracts with foreign buyers, which would not jeopardize the necessary export to a greater extent and in order to maintain the position of domestic producers on the European and regional markets.

The supply of the market with basic food items is stable, producers have sufficient quantities to meet the needs and shortages are not expected, the SCC said in a statement.
