Sapic ‘decides on fate’ of Belgrade rafts: They will no longer be at the same location

Belgrade’s Mayor Aleksandar Sapic has said that, in the future, rafts will be allowed to be set up on the Sava River bank in Belgrade, as well as in Zemun across the War Island, while „there will be nothing between Branko’s Bridge and the estuary.“

Sapic said that in February, the city would implement the project of introducing electricity and water supply at the locations envisaged for the installation of rafts, and that he expected that by March or April, „any tenant who bid the price will be able to install a raft“ on the Sava Promenade.

“During spring there will be a major reconstruction of the Sava Promenade. We are clearing everything, from Branko’s Bridge to the cape, where the army is, there will be nothing. We will prepare locations near hotel ‘Jugoslavija’ and organize bidding. By March, we expect to implement what we implemented in December, as far as the Sava promenade is concerned, and to simultaneously prepare locations across the War Island,“ Sapic said, adding that locations for the installation of rafts on the Zemun quay might be determined.

He added that the rafts that had so far been installed on the banks of the Sava River had the permission of the River Transport Authority „for floating and sailing“, without having the permission to be anchored, they did not pay the rent and were not officially connected to water and electricity.

He added that there would be „clearly defined conditions“ where the rafts would be located in the future and what they would look like, including a mandatory distance between them of 15 meters, which had not been the case so far.
