Public sector „RELEASED“ 7,429 employees

In the second quarter of this year, there were 599,668 employees in Serbian public sector, which is 7,429 fewer than in the same period of 2018, according to data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia. The largest number of employees is in the health and welfare system – 149,037, and its number decreased by 745 when compared to a year before. There are 83,484 people in public enterprises and their number decreased by around 4,000. Out of the total number of employees in the public sector 576,454 are employed, while others are hired on other grounds. In the second quarter there were 2,161,533 employees in Serbia in total, of whom 1,715,436 are working for legal entities, 373,444 are entrepreneurs and 72,653 are individual farmers. When compared to the same period last year the total number of employees increased by 1.6 percent, mostly among legal entities, while the number of individual farmers decreased by 8.7 percent.
