Novak Djokovic goes to the Olympic Games
The best tennis player in the world traveled today from the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport to the Olympic Games, which will be held in Tokyo from July 23 to August 8.
For Novak, these will be the 4th Games. He participated in the Olympic Games for the first time in Beijing in 2008, when, thanks to the victory over James Blake, he won a bronze medal.
At the Games in London in 2012, he had the great honour of carrying the flag of Serbia during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. In Rio, luck was not on his side, and now he does not hide that his wish is a gold medal in Tokyo.
He travelled to the Olympic Games as the current world number 1.
At a press conference held at Belgrade airport before take-off, Novak said,
„I have not spent much time in Serbia in the last few months, so this is the best possible way to travel to the Games. I am aiming for the best medal, I am aiming for gold, it is no secret. The schedule has been tense all season, but I have prepared quite well in the months before the Olympic Games. I have won a lot of matches, which always brings extra confidence, a new dose of energy and enthusiasm.“
As always, Novak proudly points out that it is his honour and privilege to play for his country.
„These are the most beautiful moments that an athlete can experience. I am a part of an individual sport, and there are rare occasions when I can participate in a team competition. In our country it is the Davis Cup and the ATP Cup. I was lucky enough to win both competitions for Serbia. I miss the Olympic gold medal,“ said Novak
