National Stadium to get foundation in spring

Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic has said that the completion of the National Stadium project is expected in the first half of this year.

He also stated that the idea was to compete with it for the organization of the finals of the Champions League and the Europa League.

„In the spring, we will start constructing the infrastructure that will lead to the stadium, including the road and utility infrastructure. We expect the completion of the stadium project in the first half of this year, and the start of the laying of the foundation stone, that is, the construction,“ said Udovicic.

He pointed out that the idea was for Belgrade to compete with the multifunctional stadium for the finals of the Champions League and the Europa League, adding that FIFA and UEFA standards were „pushing“ for the investment of funds for the reconstruction of the stadium.

„They no longer want to cut us some slack while our clubs play in stadiums that do not meet the criteria. It is a global struggle. We have sports quality and we can financially keep up with some countries,“ Udovicic told Telegraf.

As he said, at the moment, the renovation of three stadiums in Loznica, Zajecar and Leskovac is in progress, and this year the reconstruction of five more stadiums will begin, while the construction of the National Stadium will begin as soon as the conditions are met.
