Momirovic: Port of Antwerp is interested in Port of Belgrade

The Belgian port of Antwerp is interested in participating in the construction of the new port in Belgrade, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia announced.

Director of the Port of Antwerp, Kristof Waterschoot, announced during the visit of Serbian Minister Tomislav Momirovic to that port, that the company was interested in participating in the implementation of the project of the construction of a new port in Belgrade.

„The Port of Belgrade is one of the most important projects whose implementation is being prepared by our ministry and the Government, and which has the potential to become the most important port project on the Danube. The interest of the Port of Antwerp in participating in the realization of this project confirms that we have a high quality project, where every investment in water transport is at the same time an investment in environmental protection, because we are talking about the most environmentally friendly mode of transport,“ said Momirovic.

As it is stated, the final solution for the new location of the port of Belgrade is being considered, and the beginning of the works is expected at the end of 2023.

It is recalled that the port of Antwerp, the largest in Europe by area, employs 150,000 people and that, as it was pointed out, it is the driving force of economic development of not only Belgium, but also the entire European Union.
