Mihajlovic: Serbia has been the second largest copper producer in Europe as of autumn

The Minister of Mining and Energy, Zorana Mihajlovic, stated that one of the pillars of energy development is mining, jadarite and copper respectively, and that the Cukaru Peki mine near Bor will start operating in the autumn, thus Serbia will be the second copper producer in Europe.

„An investment plan in the field of energy and mining includes projects worth 17 billion euros. Serbia is open to investors from the United States, because we want the best companies in the world,“ Mihajlovic said during a conversation with the Department of State Bureau of Energy Resources’ Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy, Kurt Donnelly, the ministry led by her announced.

Speaking about gas supply, she said that diversification of suppliers is the next step in supply of this energy-generating product, and Serbia is also interested in the Southern Gas Corridor, as well as the future Eastern Mediterranean Pipeline.

As she also stated, by the end of the year, Serbia will have an Energy Development Strategy until 2040, with a vision until 2050, and a plan for climate and energy.

Donnelly said that the new U.S. administration has put the energy and the fight against climate change on the list of priorities, as well as that Serbia can count on the help of the U.S. in the process of energy transition.
