Greek caterers expected to have the same number of Serbian tourists this year as they did in 2019, but now they say they were wrong in their assessment.

While more than a million of tourists from our country visited Greece in 2019, it is estimated that this year the number has been almost cut in half – to a little more than 500,000.

Greek portals report on why Serbian tourists this year chose other countries for their summer vacations.

They believe that the main reason is that vaccines and tests were not mandatory for Montenegro, Albania and Turkey, but also that these destinations cost less.

The President of the Greek-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Costas Georgakos, believes that Greece needs to invest in good marketing in order to attract Serbian tourists again.

For at least two years, and under certain conditions, it is estimated that it will be necessary to bring back a significant number of Serbian tourists who chose other destinations this summer.

This is because the unvaccinated, mostly young people, picked other destinations for their holidays, such as Montenegro, Albania, Skopje and Turkey, because in these countries, unlike in Greece, there were no health restrictions (vaccination certificate, PCR test or rapid test) for entering, Greek portals report.
