Mandatory military service is more and more certain, minister also issues statement

Defence Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic has said that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army have formed task forces that analyse all segments related to planning the possibility of reintroducing regular military service.

„I expect that in the next two weeks we will have a plan with complete analyses and the best solutions regarding the financial aspect, the training aspect and the recruitment aspect,“ Stefanovic said according to a press release of the Ministry of Defence.

As it is further stated, his personal position on this issue has been known since a while ago.

„As President Vucic said, Serbia is a militarily-neutral country and as such I believe that it should have mandatory military service, just as Austria and Switzerland do. Its introduction would, above all, strengthen our country’s defence capacities,“ Stefanovic said.

The minister pointed out that it was important for young people to receive training in military skills and to get acquainted with complex combat systems and other modern techniques, equipment and weapons that the Serbian Army has today, which we have not been able to boast about in the previous decades.
