MANDATORY INOCULATION in the Serbian Army

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Army, General Milan Mojsilovic, made a decision on mandatory inoculation of members of the Serbian Army.

According to the Military Trade Union of Serbia, the decision in question represents discrimination because inoculation is introduced as a condition for promotion or professional training, and they passed on their insights to the senior public prosecutor and ombudsman.

In their response to an inquiry from N1 TV station, the Ministry of Defence stated that „due to protection of life and health of members of the Army and in order to maintain high level of readiness for realization of missions and tasks, the Chief of General Staff made a decision on mandatory inoculation of members of the Serbian Army.“

The decision was made because, as it is stated, the response of members of the Army for voluntary inoculation was assessed as insufficient, considering specifics of military service and the necessity of realization of collective tasks that cannot be successfully performed with incomplete application of measures to suppress and prevent the spread of Covid-19.

„Since inoculation of personnel is an important precondition for realization of key tasks of the Serbian Army, its full implementation is necessary to preserve operational capabilities during pandemic. This way, the desired inoculation coverage of members of the Serbian Army will be quickly achieved, thus significantly reducing virus circulation within military collectives and the risk for members of the Army who, due to their health condition, are not able to receive the vaccine against Covid-19“, reads the statement of the Ministry of Defence.
