„It is not our fault if workers accept to work under lawless conditions“

The Minister for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Zoran Djordjevic said that he demands of inspectors to impose maximum penalties on employers who are hiring illegal workers, stating that state is taking all measures to ensure safety at work.

„The fight against illegal employment is ongoing, we are trying to make it more efficient every year and there are more and more controls,“ Djordjevic said at the assembly on improving the work of local socio-economic councils.

According to him, the fact that there are fewer deaths and fewer and fewer illegally employed workers goes in favour of things going in the right direction.

He pointed out that the Ministry requires employers to strictly comply with the law, but urges workers to claim their rights as well.

„We are here to protect their rights, we are not guilty if something happens to them when they accept working beyond what is allowed by the law, but even then we will take action,“ Djordjevic said.
