Hungary: A new refuge for the Serbian labour force

Our workers in Hungary usually work in jobs that do not require qualifications, mostly in the automotive industry. Salaries range from 500 to 600 euros a month, including paid accommodation and one free trip home every month, the Blic daily reports.

A large number of employment agencies offer Serbian citizens employment in Hungary, and trend of going to a neighbouring country could replace departures to Slovakia, even though salaries are far from those realized by “guest workers.”

“The shift lasts for three months, and so far I have been on the so-called test work and I am waiting to go again,” says Jovanka J.

She worked in the automotive industry and job, she says, is not too difficult and consists of fitting plastic parts in car interior. She explains that the employer offers aid with work visa during next arrival to those who meet requirements, but also pays all expenses that accompany them, and she has decide to go because Hungary is not too far from Serbia.

“There is overtime but it is more optional. One who wants to come to work on Saturday can do that. Of course that they all work because different wages would not be good enough to bring home at least 1,000 euros home after three months,” says interlocutor of the Blic daily.
