    Petar Tutavac

Departure of the creator of Domacica and Plazma: Who was Petar Tutavac?

The creator of the biscuits Domacica and Plazma, Petar Tutavac, has died at the age of 88. The Bambi company stated that it received the news of the death of Petar Tutavac, one of the creators of Plazma biscuits, with great sadness.

„As the first professional biscuit maker, he is the creator of numerous treats in the former Yugoslavia, which are still loved and trusted by consumers. Mr. Tutavac has left an indelible mark in the confectionery industry and we are grateful to him for his huge contribution to the quality and recognisability of Plazma biscuits, which generations have enjoyed and still enjoy today, both children and adults,“ the statement reads.

Tutavac was born in 1934 in Podgradina near Opuzen (now the municipality of Slivno), as Slobodna Dalmacija wrote last year, when it published Tutavac’s life story and an interview with him. At the age of thirteen, he finished the weaving craft in Opuzen and he became a skilled weaver. Then, for several years, he wove baskets in which bread was carried.

In 1949, through the trade union, he applied for a course for a biscuit maker in Zagreb, which was announced by the Kras factory, where he and another student studied the biscuit making craft. Tutavac was the first educated biscuit maker in the former Yugoslavia.

    Thesis – Domacica

Then he went to the army, and after his return he got a job in Kras.

„At the time, Kras was the only confectionery producer and all the others that appeared later originated from it,“ said Tutavac at the time, who attended Kras’s vocational school for confectionery engineers in production, while also working.

His thesis and debut in the confectionery industry was Domacica. The biscuit later went through various variations, but the basis remained the one designed by Petar Tutavac in his thesis in the 1950s.

The crown of Petar Tutavac’s career took place in Pozarevac. He founded the Bambi biscuit factory in Pozarevac, whose trademark is a character from a Disney cartoon. This is where the famous Plazma biscuit was made.

Filipovic came up with the name Plazma. Tutavac created numerous treats, he was the first in Yugoslavia to make breadsticks and he was the first professional biscuit maker in the former state.
