Dear tourists welcome to Serbia – „an oasis without the possibility of any terrorist attack“

The World Tourism Day is celebrated today and on that occasion Minister Rasim Ljajic has brought us nothing but good news. We have also heard an ascertainment from the Minister that could become a new slogan for the promotion of Serbia’s tourist offer.

According to him, despite global chaos Serbia represents an oasis without the possibility of any terrorist attack.

In 2017 Serbia was visited by 3.1 million tourists, which represents an increase of 12 percent. An increase in number of registered foreign tourists is even higher, as much as 17 percent. Minister Rasim Ljajic states with RTS TV station that increase in number of foreign tourists is even greater, as these figures only refer to registered tourists.

Ljajic has said that, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Tourism, as much as 40 percent of foreigners stayed in Serbia in private accommodation and 13 percent stayed in hostels.

The question is whether those service providers and hostels are registered at all, as that is one large field in the grey zone. I am certain that from the official 17 percent, which puts Serbia among top five countries in Europe with the highest increase in number of tourists, the actual visit by foreign tourists is even higher,“ Ljajic has pointed out.

„When asked what motivated them to come to Serbia, 40 percent of respondents said this was cultural heritage, 22 percent said hospitality, 21 gastronomy, and only 10 percent entertainment, while 16 percent listed the best price-to-quality ratio as the main reason,“ says Ljajic.
