Construction workers ask for assistance: Iron TWICE AS EXPENSIVE in a year

Construction workers in Serbia are preparing a letter to address the association in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) for help, because due to the astronomic rise in the price of construction materials, this industry faces a lot of problems in doing business.

„We are preparing a request for assistance because the prices of construction materials are rising every day and the construction sector is on its knees, the days of old glory are behind us,“ said several representatives of companies in the sector.

The owner of the „Sehovici“ warehouse in Obrenovac, Ilija Jovicic, said that they changed prices all day long and that, more and more often, the same amount of goods could not be bought for money from the sold material with a margin.

“Goods are rising in price almost every week, everything is more expensive. Last year, a masonry unit cost RSD 19 in wholesale at this time, now it costs RSD 33, a ton of iron increased in price from EUR 550 to EUR 1,100,“ Jovicic said.

He added that it was increasingly difficult to buy construction materials in domestic factories, because they most likely increased export due to the growth in demand for these goods on the global market.
