CHAMPIONS LEAGUE once again and „a pile“ of MILLIONS once again
Football players of Red Star will play in the most prestigious club competition for the second year in a row, bringing points to Serbian football, but also securing solid financial income to the club. They defeated their last obstacle in Champions League qualifying rounds at the „Rajko Mitic“ stadium, where they secured a 1:1 draw against Swiss Yong Boys. Result of the first leg was 2:2, thus Red Star qualified for the group stage of the Champions League due to advantage in away goals. Besides additional and important points for the club, as well as Serbian football in general, qualification for the Champions League also means a good financial injection for the Serbian champion. Namely, UEFA secures EUR 15.25 million for mere qualifying for the Champions League. Every victory in the Champions League is worth EUR 2.7 million and every draw is worth EUR 900,000. Red Star could earn over EUR 10 million from TV rights and sponsorship deals during group stage, and besides that a „big“ profit is expected from ticket sales as well. There is also another, less visible gain, which is market growth of Red Star players in case of qualifying for the Champions League, which can be seen after Serbian team ends its participation in this competition.
