Minister’s PLAN for foreigners doing „remote“ work in Serbia

The Minister of Labour, Zoran Djordjevic announced amendments to the Law on Employment of Foreigners and the Law on Foreigners, in order to secure higher state revenues from the fact that an increasing number of foreigners works „remotely“ from Serbia, for companies in other countries.

He stated with RTS that the idea is for Serbia to be the first country in Europe that will introduce the possibility for those who work for foreign companies, yet are not Serbian citizens, to continue doing their job and live in Serbia.

„Both employees as well as our country would benefit from that. Estonia is thinking of introducing something similar, but I would like Serbia to be the first to introduce this,“ Minister stated.

The new regulations, he added, should be in force from January 1st of the following year.

He explained that everyone who wants to live in Serbia, and who work for companies that are abroad, should prove that they have a higher gross salary, above EUR 3,500, that they are employed in foreign companies, that they do not reside in Serbia and that they are foreigners, in order to obtain residence and work permit for one year in Serbia.
