Serbia one step closer to EU
The Commissioner Johannes Hahn has said that Serbia has opened two new chapters because good progress has been made in field of economic and monetary policy and in field of statistics.
He has said that progress in Chapter 17 (economic and monetary policy) and Chapter 18 (statistics) is crucial for further structural reforms and economic growth in Serbia. „The current growth is good, structural reforms bear fruit, but they have to be preserved,“ the European Commissioner has added.
The requirements from chapter 12 require from Serbia to prepare its annual budget and reforms in a transparent manner in consultation with the EU, he has added.
Budget transparency, predictability in legislative segment and decisive implementation of reforms will result in long-term growth and opening of new job positions. Structural reforms must be accompanied by good statistics, Hahn has said.
Hahn says that Serbian statistic databases are one of the most comprehensive in the region, but he also says that additional efforts are needed in reporting on key macroeconomic indicators and on economy’s structure.
