Will the state correct the injustice done to women on maternity leave?

Based on the new calculation method brought by the amendments to the Law on financial support to the families with children, some women on maternity leave will receive less than 1,000 dinars a month from the state. The government says it will partially correct the omission in the law.

After the appeal of the public, the state itself acknowledged the error. The Minister without portfolio in charge of the population policy says that the provisions are degrading and she announces the introduction of a minimum wage for the women on maternity leave.

„We were considering introducing the lower limit of maternity allowance through the first amendments to the law, but I cannot say now what amount that would be, because we should see how much the budget can sustain. However, no matter how much money we have, we will invest in it,“ said Slavica Djukic Dejanovic.

It remains to be seen how much the minimum maternity allowance will be, why activists seek an urgent meeting with the minister, so that the amendments would be accelerated and shortcomings eliminated as soon as possible.
