Vesic: Construction of METRO will start in November, completion of both lines by 2030

Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic has said that the construction of the metro in Belgrade will begin in November, adding that the first line will be completed in 2028, and the second in 2030.

„Currently, a risk register is being prepared, that is, all the buildings on the metro route are being surveyed in order to determine their state, especially around the stations themselves. The metro will be up to 47 meters deep on some sections, and for example, 19 meters at Dorcol,“ said Vesic for TV Prva.

According to him, the metro will exist for „centuries“, and as he stated, the beginning of construction this year would be a „historic event“ for Belgrade, while the first step would be the construction of a depot at Makis Field.

„The construction of the first and second lines will cost around 4.6 billion euros. The metro could not be built with money from the City budget alone, which is why the support of president Aleksandar Vucic is very important, because money was provided from the state budget,“ said Vesic.

He recalled that „light, strength, freedom and security“ represented four designs of the wagons of the future metro and citizens would be able to vote for the design they liked most through the official website of the City of Belgrade.

„Voting will last for exactly 60 days, and on September 15, we will announce what kind of wagon design the citizens chose. After that, we will do a ‘showroom’ at Trg Republike, where people will be able to see what the interior of the metro, lines, stations will look like, that is, get acquainted with what Belgrade will experience from 2028,“ Vesic said, as reported by Beoinfo.
