Unemployment rate drops because PEOPLE ARE LEAVING the country? „I refute this trend of criticism“

By presenting data on the employment rate growth, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic wants to „refute the trend of criticism“ – that the unemployment rate is dropping because people are leaving the country. However, many economists refute the Prime Minister’s rebuttal. The unemployment rate at the moment is 10.3 percent, Brnabic said at the presentation of the Foreign Investors Council’s White Book, adding that she expects third-quarter data to show that the unemployment rate dropped to a single-digit. The prime minister also responded to those who claimed that the drop in the unemployment rate was a consequence of the emigration of citizens abroad, and she said that the unemployment rate did not decline due to emigration. „I want to refute the criticism trend that the unemployment rate is dropping because people are leaving the country, by presenting data that the employment rate is rising, that it is now 49.2 percent, while it used to be 41.8 percent, and that this is the reason for the drop in unemployment. Experts do not dispute that the unemployment rate has been partly reduced thanks to job openings and economic growth, but they say that the main cause of the decline in the unemployment rate is, in fact, the departure of the working age population.
