Serbia to get yet another highway

The Ministry of Construction has presented the plan of the route of a new highway that will go from Belgrade to Zrenjanin and further from Zrenjanin to Novi Sad. Considering that the route must be independent of the existing Zrenjanin road, now, for the first time, alternative routes and their connection with the existing infrastructural network have been presented. Alternative highway routes are located east of current Zrenjanin road, and plan foresees two variants for the open road route and two variants for the bypass motorways around Zrenjanin. The route from Borca to Zrenjanin will be 58 kilometres long. A total length of the route from Zrenjanin to Novi Sad is almost 47 kilometres. The new highway is practically in line with the route of the existing motorway, and minor differences in the variants of this part of the route have no traffic significance.

A project worth 600 million euros

The total length of the highway will be around 110 kilometres, and more than 300,000 people live in the area that directly encompasses it. The drafting of this plan is financed by the company „China Shandong International Economic and Technical Corporation Group“, and the estimated value of the project is around 600 million euros. The construction of this highway was accompanied by numerous questions, especially those related to the land on which it will be built, since the sale of PKB practically sold part of the future highway route. How much land will now have to be rebought from a foreign owner for the needs of the highway, and at what price the expropriation will be carried out, will yet to be a topic for the public, web portal reports.
