    NBS warns of UNAUTHORIZED creditors

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) warns citizens that certain number of companies provides unauthorized loans to citizens and receives their deposits. The NBS has announced that number of companies is cashing checks with a commission fee, as well as paying certain amount of cash in exchange for securities (jewelry, motor vehicles, real estate and other values) and at a certain interest. As stated, the NBS has also noticed that number of companies is offering citizens financial investments with a commercial that guarantees payment of profit. „We are pointing out that provision of these services actually represents unauthorized credit financing, i.e. unauthorized receipt of deposits,“ the statement said. The Central Bank reminds that the Law on Banks stipulates that no one besides bank can receive deposits, provide loans and issue payment cards, unless it is authorized to do that by law. Under certain conditions and with prior approval of the NBS, loans for payment transactions can also be approved by payment institutions and e-money institutions. Besides that, based on legal authorization, some other institutions can also approve loans, such as Development Fund, that can approve loans to abet development of business entities. As pointed out, the purpose of this legal provision is to protect citizens’ deposits. The NBS has also pointed out that all citizens’ deposits at banks are ensured up to the amount of EUR 50,000.
