Krokobabic: 150,000 empty houses are waiting for their tenants

Minister of Rural Welfare, Milan Krkobabic, has announced that he will propose to the Government of Serbia a program for allocating empty rural houses to young farmers.

He told Radio-televizija Vojvodine that about 150,000 rural houses were empty in Serbia.

„Since three generations often live under the same roof in Serbia, this program will be aimed at young people who intend to become independent, start a family and establish farms„, said Krkobabic.

The minister said that the idea was for the state to „offer young people a household near their parents’ house“.

„They have the right to organize the household as they wish, and then, with the mechanization they have in their parents’ house, they will help each other out and work together. To such a person, such a married couple we can cede up to 50 hectares of state-owned land. That would be useful,“ Krkobabic said.

He added that the Ministry would also offer houses to young unemployed agronomists, veterinarians, doctors and dentists.

The co-presidents of the National Team for the Revival of Serbian Villages, Minister Milan Krkobabic and Academician Dragan Skoric, met today in Novi Sad with President of the Cooperative Union of Vojvodina, Radislav Jovanov, to discuss the established „Cooperative revival program“, whose implementation should start at the end of March.
