It’s not News.net: Belgrade in the race for GREEN CAPITAL Award
Belgrade is one of 16 cities in Europe participating in the competition for the European Green Capital Award 2023.
The goal is to recognize the ecological achievements of cities.
The shortlisted cities will be presented this year to an international jury chaired by the European Commission.
The new cycle of European Green Capital and Green Leaf Awards and their significance in the context of the European Green Agreement aims to recognize the environmental achievements of cities and towns striving for urban sustainability and eco-innovation, and encourage others to take positive action in making their cities adequate and more accessible for living.
Namely, citizens comment on this news on social networks in disbelief, and some call it a “joke of the decade”, having in mind the great pollution of the previous days, weeks, months and years in Belgrade, but also in other cities in Serbia.
Furthermore, many are wondering what the criteria are, pointing to the numerous cutting down of trees, forest devastation, and river pollution in Serbia.
